Dot US Domains

The dot US country-specific domain extension was launched in 1985 and given to the USA, but it was available to the public in 2002. It is among the most widely used country-specific extensions having in mind the fact that many US commercial entities prefer to have a local domain and the US market is amongst the largest in the world. Many institutions, agencies and local governments also used or still use second-, third- or even fourth-level dot US domains along with their official dot GOV domains.
