An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a PC and functions as the intermediary between all the applications and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it transmits requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, web servers also use an Operating System which functions as a host for the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so you will be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host Operating System.

Aside from being free, the OSs are very stable and safe and the primary reason to offer the three of them is to ensure that you will be able to run any kind of application that you would like, because different pieces of software have different requirements regarding the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is supported by a vast community of developers who have generated thousands of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. In accordance with the Operating System which you select, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to manage your website hosting content. Needless to say, should you decide that you need a new OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the OS for max stability and security.

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server solutions - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they are cost-free so they won't increase the low price of your new server, but also because they are outstandingly secure and stable. Each of them is supported by a vast community of developers, so you'll be able to choose from thousands of software packages that you could install on your server if the application that you intend to employ has certain requirements. The Operating System will also determine what internet hosting Control Panel you can use because the Control Panels that we offer run on specific OSs only and because we want to give you as much adaptability as possible, we offer a couple of OSs and multiple Control Panels. In case you choose a server with a given Operating System, we could change it upon request in the event that it turns out that you need a different one. We can also keep the OS updated on a weekly basis as part of our optional Managed Services upgrade.
